Spend Less on your Spanish Vacation

Spanish Vacation

You’ve taken a look at the villas in spain that many people love to stay in, and you’ve decided to stay in one too. You’ve also decided that your trip to Spain is going to be the best holiday you’ve ever had, but you’re concerned about spending a lot of cash while you’re away. The good news is you really can spend less on your Spanish vacation, you just have to know how.

Below you will find a few money-saving tips that should make a real difference to your bank account, and your time away:

Car-sharing Schemes

Spain is home to a lot of car-sharing schemes which means you could potentially travel from one part of Spain to another. This is a much cheaper way for you to travel and it could be a lot of fun, but you may not be able to share a car for every journey you want to make. However, if you can make at least one trip using one of these car-sharing schemes you’re going to save a bit of cash, and that’s never a bad thing.

One thing I would advise you to do is plan your trip as far in advance as you can so that you have more chance to finding someone who’s willing to take you where you want to be. If there are no advertisements offering a seat or two in a car you may want to think about asking if anyone has room, and mention how much you’re willing to pay for it. Some apps will let you ask for a seat in a car whereas others won’t. This means you may have to think of an alternative yet cheap way to get to where you need to be.

Eat your Largest Meal at Lunch Time

The Spanish tend to eat their largest meal at lunchtime and have a smaller meal later on. But how can this save me money? I hear you ask. Well, the fact is that meals served around lunch time tend to be a lot cheaper than they are in the evening, which means you should save a nice bit of money. If you do need to eat out in the evening try not to order too much food as it is a little more expensive and you may not want quite so much after your big lunch.

Visit a Few Museums

No matter where you are in Spain there’s likely to be one or two museums around, and many of them don’t charge an entry fee. This means that you can potentially spend much of your day traipsing around a museum for no cost at all. You should be aware that many museums only offer free entry on specific days, so you may want to find out when you can visit for free.

Travel on the Underground

If you plan to get around the Spanish city of your choice you may want to consider travelling on the underground. Travelling this way is so much cheaper than getting in a taxi, and it can be more reliable than the local bus service too. The metro in Spain tends to be very cheap, and the underground maps are usually pretty easy to read too, meaning you could go here and there with relative ease.

Some stations offer discounted tickets on the metro, so you may want to see if you can save even more money. You usually have to pay for your journey in advance, but if you plan to be using the metro almost every day you could save a nice bit of cash.

Find out Where you can Eat for Free

If you happen to be visiting Granada you may be pleased to know that you can eat for free, you just have to know where that free food is! If you go into a bar in this part of Spain and you order an alcoholic drink you are likely to be offered some food for absolutely nothing. Although you may be expecting some breadsticks and a few nibbles, some bars go a little further than that and offer you small portions of paella. This means that if you order 3 or 4 beers you can potentially enjoy a good meal for free!

Walk as Much as you can

While there may be occasions when you need to hop on a bus or a train if you can walk to your destination you may want to think about doing so. This is because walking that half a mile to the area of your choice costs nothing, but you could pay at least a few Euros on the bus. Every Euro you spend adds up after a while, so save your money and get there via your shoe leather instead.

Take everything you need with you

If you have opted for a self-catering holiday, you may want to think about taking everything you need with you. For example, you may want to take your own coffee and tea bags, toiletries and washing powder as these items can be a little more expensive in Spain. So, save your money, make sure your suitcase is not too heavy, and you won’t have to visit the local supermarkets quite so often.

There is a real opportunity for you to save money while you’re in Spain. Use the above tips to help you rein in your spending so you feel a little less guilty about spending cash when you need to.
