Ideas to Boost Online Sales

Linda Blair October 19, 2017 Reviews Leave a Comment

You might have been selling on the internet for a number of years now but there’s always room for improvement. Trying and testing new strategies is essential so you can find out what really works well for your business. Testing new ideas on your website is the only way to start increasing sales and here are a few ideas to get you started:

Focus on one product

If you sell a number of products or services then to test whether this is the best strategy for you, try focusing on just one of these products or services on your home page. Higher sales are often produced by providing more detailed information on a select few products or services. It’s all about narrowing down your focus. Instead of trying to appeal to every visitor, you focus on one product with in depth information and knowledge, answering all possible questions and queries your visitors might have. Testing it for a couple of weeks, aiming for a more targeted audience and see how it works for your sales. Hover Ads

These can add significant impact to your promotional campaigns. Hover ads cleverly evade the blocking that pop-ups suffer with but still provide the same benefits that pop-up ads used to have for businesses. One site reported an increase in sales of 162% after adding hover ads to their website. The great thing about hover ads is that they can display opt-in information or special promotional offers right in front of your visitors. You could see a big increase in the number of visitors signing up to subscriptions and you’ll get figures showing you how many visitors click through to a special offers page as a result of a hover ad.

Identify problem and offer solution

This is the key to successful sales – establish what the problem is for your visitors and demonstrate how you will solve it. Clever use of headlines can introduce the problem while the first paragraphs of copy should go into the issue in more detail. You need to demonstrate how you identify with the visitor’s issue, understand it and encourage trust that you know how to solve it. Next you need to show exactly how your product or service solves this problem. Only then will you see a rise in sales.

Testimonials

You need to demonstrate that you’re credible, trustworthy and effective. Do this by making sure you include current testimonials for previous customers. Don’t ever be tempted to make these yourself but should be genuine excerpts from customer emails or letters. Try to use examples that specifically mention how your service or product fixed a particular problem as these will resonate more with potential customers than a simple ‘You’re great!’ comment.

You and not I

Read through the copy on your website and think about replacing any references to ‘I’ or ‘We’ and put the emphasis back on the customer with lots of ‘you’ and ‘your’. The customer needs to know that you understand what they are looking for so instead of ‘I designed this so that you can…’, you  want to immediately put the customer in an ownership position with ‘Your new product will ……’.
