How cybersecurity technology is transforming

Linda Blair October 24, 2017 Reviews Leave a Comment

Digital threats continue to evolve at an alarming rate, bringing organisations as vast as the NHS to their knees for days in 2017. Luckily, cybersecurity transforms and evolves quickly enough to keep up with the new threats, allowing businesses of all sizes to continue operating at peak efficiency.

There are a number of tools and trends that will transform cybersecurity in the coming years, with some of the frontrunners being machine learning, endpoint security, and an increased focus on breach response.

Machine learning increasing efficiency

One of the biggest challenges for businesses when it comes to IT security is the chronic lack of security professionals, and this shortage is predicted to continue through the coming decade. Machine learning promises to help remedy this by increasing the tasks that can be effectively automated.

First, machine learning can effectively be applied to penetration testing. Currently, penetration testing is relatively simple, but incredibly time-consuming, even semi-automated. Applying neural networks can free up skilled staff to deal with more demanding aspects of security, while an AI handles penetration testing – https://www.htbridge.com/blog/why-machine-learning-is-the-future-of-security.html.

Second, neural networks can be perfectly applied to breach detection. To identify breaches currently requires trawling through vast amounts of application logs looking for discrepancies, which is an incredibly unpleasant and time-consuming task. A neural network would be able to complete the task much more quickly, and even keep watch over logs in real time looking for indicators that a breach might be in progress.

Endpoint security becoming the new standard

With increasing numbers of employees working out of office, and mobile devices becoming more integral to our day to day lives, there are more avenues of attack for cyberattacks than ever before.

With infections, like the ransomware that has become common in 2017, able to jump from device to device, securing every device that comes in contact with your network is key to security, and that means adopting strong endpoint security management, such as that from promisec.com.

Breach response is the new priority

Many experts feel that regardless of how good security is, breaches will happen. It is important, therefore, to be able to rapidly recognise when a breach has occurred, and rapidly lock down data to minimise loss.

While threats continue to evolve, so do security responses. The skillsets required of security professionals will only increase in the coming years.
