Are you a whizz with numbers? Do sums not faze you at all? If you love dealing with figures, then you might be considering a career that means you get to do what you love. Is your idea of heaven to spend the work day getting lost in figures and data? Then, here are just a few ideas of careers for people who excel at maths and calculations:

Analyst – Business and Acquisition Analysts must have a good head for numbers. They can be in charge of procurement for a department or budgeting and this requires a cool head and an ability to perform quick mental arithmetic when making decisions that affect a business’ bottom line. Developing strategies is also an important element of this work, as well as working well with other related departments.

Financial Manager – As you can imagine, anyone responsible for someone else’s money needs to have a firm grasp of numbers! Many financial managers will also hold some kind of business qualification, as business and mathematics are good partners. A financial manager could be responsible for the complete financial health of an organisation, from a small business to a multinational conglomerate. Knowing how to grow a business, expand profits and analyse market conditions are all vital elements of this profession. Financial managers are often found in banks and insurance companies.

Data Scientists work in analytics, algorithms and metrics which are essential for product analysis and businesses who wish to make important market decisions.

Accountant – For those with a love of numbers and great attention to detail, accounting is a popular career choice. An accountant might work for a wide range of businesses or be hired for personal financial management. They can be employed or freelance and must keep accurate logs of transactions and help people pay their taxes on time. Software Engineer – Working with computers to design, create and develop software programs for whatever industry they are employed in. This is another complex job which requires research, strong computing skills and definitely a head for numbers. It mixes computer science, mathematics and elements of engineering.

Teacher – Of course, for teaching maths, economics, statistics or computing, being good with numbers is a prerequisite. There are many different areas of teaching, from primary age to being a university lecturer. If you love communicating and are passionate about helping others to develop a strong knowledge of maths, then teaching is a great option.
