What is electrical energy?

Electrical energy is a concept that is important in science, but it is misunderstood. What is electrical energy?

The flow of electric charges produces a form of energy. Energy is the ability to move an object by applying force. The force for electrical energy is the attraction or repellence that occurs between charged particles.

Electrical energy can take either a kinetic form or a potential form. Most commonly, electrical energy is experienced as potential energy. This is stored from the positions of electric fields and charged particles.

We call this movement of charged atoms a current, or electricity. Static electricity is another form of electricity. Static electricity is caused by an imbalance in the positive and negative charge of an object. This is also a form of potential energy. The energy can be released in the form of a spark or lightning if the charge is high enough. This is when potential energy becomes kinetic energy.

What is its use?

We use this energy to produce electric power. When we switch on a TV or a lightbulb, this is potential energy converted into electrical power. Potential energy is then converted into other types of energy such as heat and light. When you need an Exeter Electrician, visit www.slelectricals.co.uk

Batteries are another example of electrical power. Batteries will produce energy from ions rather than electrons.

Even our own bodies contain electrical energy. On one side of the membrane, electrons, hydrogen ions, and ions are in greater concentration, creating an electric potential. This electrical potential is used for processes like nerve impulses and muscle movements.
