A look at window styles for your home

Windows are a major part of all homes, providing natural light and ventilation and adding to the overall style. If you’re in the process of looking at new windows, here are the most common designs of frames and windows available.

Bay windows

A classic feature of many British homes, bay windows are large and let in a lot of light. They also add space to a room, as they extend out past the external wall and give the option of adding a window seat or bench. They can be tricky to dress with blinds or curtains and are high in price, but certainly add style and value to a home.

Casement windows

These are standard shaped and open to the left or right via a hinge on one side. Because they are tightly sealed, they are low maintenance and highly energy efficient.

If you are choosing these or any other type of window, it’s worth investing in double or even triple glazing. The Energy Saving Trust says that the cost of double glazing varies a lot, with A-rated windows in a semi-detached house costing around £15,000. But they can help you save significantly on your energy bills and lower your carbon footprint. If you are looking for new windows Hereford, there are many specialist suppliers, such as https://www.truhouse.co.uk/double-glazing/windows/hereford, that can help you choose.

Awning windows

These open outward from a top hinge and are usually more suited to outbuildings or offices, as they are less aesthetically pleasing. They are often put on high walls and allow rainwater to slide off easily, but are difficult to clean.

The most modern style, these have a single pane of glass which allows an unobstructed view. However, they don’t open for ventilation.
