We live permanently online, connected to the world. Listen to music via streaming, much of television consume is directly over the Internet and do not leave home without activating the GPS.
In the middle of Internet of Things, this ecosystem that gives us immediacy and services, the sound multiroom is the perfect alternative to traditional audio, a consistent evolution. And when you know what this is, you want to have a speaker multiroom home, you’ll see.
What is multiroom audio?
The idea is simple: is to hear the audio of our favorite devices in a speaker that can take anywhere. Technology multiroom not want to think about cables or complex installations, but we are able to turn on and use it on the fly.
How do you get this? On the one hand, we need an emitting source, like our mobile phone and, on the other hand, the speaker. Both communicate via wireless technology protocols. Let’s look at the most common:
- Bluetooth: Allows transmission of data via radio frequency but is quite limited, both the range and the amount of data that is able to play through its fifth version promises a bandwidth 800% superior.
- WiFi: this technology is standard. It makes use of a network access point, therefore we need an internet connection. It allows a fast transmission of data and its range of action is much wider – to several kilometers.
- NFC (near field communication): This is a short – range protocol and high frequency. It is ideal for payments, replacing the credit card, linking electronic devices and taking advantage of their fast synchronization. In the case of a speaker multiroom, it is a very positive point because with only bring our smartphone we can reproduce the sound.
Broadly speaking, the sound multiroom part of that scheme: an audio application (such as Spotify, Deezer, Google Play Music or our own audio library) and a receiving source. Songs can also be managed from a mobile or desktop app. Samsung, for example, has its own multiroom application from which we can control the volume, the speaker play music, equalizer, create a playlist, and so on.

Why did not this option exist before?
Actually, the sound multiroom takes some time in the market, but a more professional level. The closest we could consider is the music but does not offer the mobility of a portable speaker.
In Spain, wireless technologies have taken off just two years ago, until then we were forced to improve the quality of our WiFi network funerals (a type of router) and repeaters. The most demanding applications in terms of audio quality have just been upgraded to the multiroom, such as Dolby Atmos. Before, wireless music was associated with compressed music and poor quality.
Increasingly brands bet on this technology since we are in the sweet time streaming. More than a trend, it is a practical and comfortable way to listen to our favorite music. And not just music: just look at the good health services streaming as Netflix or Yomvi to understand that the multi – zone sound is the perfect complement.
With WiFi, a network smartphone or tablet and a speaker, we can boast of listening to our playlist anywhere, either cooking some crazy recipe, lying in bed, in a relaxing bath or while washing the car from the garage.
What models are available to buy?
At present, there is a good offer of models and brands. From the Music Flow range of LG to the high-end Sonos equipment, compatible with almost any format and musical application. Or the All Connected Audio range from Panasonic, versatile and good quality broadcast equipment.
We must take into account our needs. If we want a 4 or 5 speaker system to mount a home cinema without cables, if we want to have a satellite speaker in each room, or if we just want to listen to music in a quality speaker while preparing a delicious risotto.
