How is ultrasound used in industrial cleaning?

Shawn Michaels February 19, 2024 Reviews Leave a Comment

It is often crucial to keep industrial parts clean, helping to minimise damage and corrosion and extend their life cycle and the lifecycle of the machines that they are in. Ultrasonic cleaning is one of several methods of cleaning objects.
Ultrasonic cleaning uses ultrasound waves together with a water-based cleaning solution to clean items. The frequency of the ultrasound waves is usually between 20 and 400kHz. The waves induce special ‘cavitation’ bubbles in the cleaning solution which exert high forces and dislodge contaminants. These bubbles can even penetrate blind holes, recesses, and cracks.

What can be removed?

Ultrasonic cleaners are able to remove a vast range of contaminants including dust, dirt, oil, grease, rust, algae, limescale, fungus, fingerprints, polishing compounds, wax, soot and soil.

Benefits of ultrasound cleaning

Ultrasonic cleaners are versatile as they can be used for a wide range of workpieces in terms of size, shape, and materials. The process is fairly gentle, meaning that it can be used on glass and ceramics. The water-based cleaning solutions that are used are environmentally friendly and non-hazardous. The process is not overly technical, and can therefore be done by most people with just some basic training.

Types of ultrasound cleaners

There are three main types of ultrasonic cleaners: table-top or portable ultrasonic cleaners, bench-top ultrasonic cleaners, and large-capacity industrial ultrasonic cleaners.

Thinking of buying a large ultrasonic cleaner?

A large ultrasonic cleaner can deal with bigger items such as major aerospace or automotive parts. If you feel that your business could benefit from having one, then a large ultrasonic cleaner from Hilsonic could be the solution you are looking for.

Applications

Ultrasonic cleaners are used in a variety of industries for cleaning a range of different objects including bearings, bolts, plastic injection moulds and engine parts.
