Something which is very worrying and clear that we must all take action on immediately is the climate crisis. Scientists have warned that the earth doesn’t have long left if we carry on as we are and things are only going to get worse – more natural disasters, more extreme and unseasonal weather fluctuations and more plants and animals under threat of extinction.

There are many ways that we can all contribute to saving the planet – from ,making sure that us as individuals and the businesses that we work for recycle by making use of services like this polystyrene recycling at www.printwaste.co.uk/business-recycling-solutions/polystyrene-recycling/ to considering how we can use renewable energy to heat and power our homes and workplaces.

Something that most people can do, that would make a huge difference to the greenhouse gases produced by traffic as well as our overall health and fitness levels, and costs of fuel and transport, is to take up cycling. Getting into cycling is not as hard as you think, and it is a great way to travel. To begin with, the thought of cycling to work and to the shops can seem a little worrying if it is not something that you are used to, but here are some great tips to get you on the road to cycling…

Be Prepared – When you go out cycling it is always good to have a bag of supplies with you. Food, water a mobile phone as well as a bike lock and some lights. That way, if you want to stop off on the way home, your journey gets delayed, or you are stuck somewhere you will have all that you need with you to be safe and secure.

Practice makes Perfect – Before you decide to leap straight into a commute to work through the rush hour traffic, it is best to do some practice journeys, especially if it has been a long time since you have ridden a bike. Go to some quieter places and get used to how the bike works and moves, and you could also practice the route to work but at a quiet time of the day, so you are more confident when you make the trip.

Dress Correctly – When cycling it is a good idea to make sure you are dressed for the circumstances. Many people find that they can get saddle sores when they spend too long on a bike, so will wear some padded cycling shorts for comfort. It is also important to take note of the weather and make sure that you have the correct gear for the climate – a lightweight waterproof jacket for the rain, and some good quality polarised sunglasses for bright days, particularly in the autumn and spring when the sun is often low during rush hour.
