Mental health problems have been on the increase over the last few years. Some of this is a result of the pandemic that we have been navigating. There are a number of ways that managers can support those with mental health issues within their business.
Training – as mentioned above, there are a number of different courses that can be attended, and some of these will give information about specific conditions, and others will provide ways in which managers and team leaders can support others.
Support – when listening to employees and supporting them with any mental health issues that they may have, it is important that the team leader and manager also receive any support that might be needed. This could be regular one-to-one meetings or access to specialists if needed.
EAP – employee assistance programmes are a great way to give employees access to specialised counselling services at times when they may need them. These programmes are often provided on a 24-hour basis and can cover everything from personal issues through to financial problems or even issues in the workplace.
