The Jet Age Museum – Learn about the local aerospace industry, and the local heroes like Frank Whittle, the inventor of the jet engine. Here you can explore many different types of aircraft and learn more about them. Get up close and into the cockpit of an Avro Vulcan bomber, and the Hawker Siddeley Trident. There are lots of experts on hand who will be happy to teach you more about the exhibits.
The National Waterways Museum – Explore this museum and find out about Gloucester Docks when it was a working dock, Britain’s most inland port. Find out about the lives of the people who worked on these jobs and the jobs that were done here. As well as this, learn about the Gloucester and Sharpness canal and the vibrant ecosystem in and around it. You can even take a boat trip down the canal where you can learn more about its history and see the surrounding scenery.
The Folk of Gloucester Museum – This ancient building that was built around the start of the 16th Century is the perfect place to house the museum of artefacts from the history of the people of Gloucester. The oak timbers of the building themselves hold many years of history, and it is said that the Bishop Hopper stayed in this very building the night before he was burned at the stake. The folk museum is a great place to explore the rich local history of the people of Gloucester.
