Talk therapy comes in various forms but should deliver a supportive environment where you can address a range of emotional challenges. These may be caused by anything from traumatic experiences to relationship difficulties and talk therapy can offer a safe way of discussing feelings and emotions.

What are sessions like

Talking therapies vary and can be led by a range of different practitioners, including those who have completed mental health training courses Milton Keynes with companies such as www.tidaltraining.co.uk/mental-health-training-courses/milton-keynes/. In general, sessions will last around 45 minutes and weekly appointments are often recommended at the start. This will depend on your individual needs and circumstances, however, and the process should be adjusted to fulfil your requirements.

Talking therapies can be useful to address a range of issues, including stress, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, personality disorders and dealing with long-term health problems. Talk therapy can be useful for those coping with chronic pain, for example.

Types of talk therapy

Different approaches to talking therapy are available, and broadly fall into the categories of behavioural therapy, CBT or cognitive behavioural therapy, humanistic therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and integrative or holistic therapy. Which one is best-suited will depend on you and your individual needs. For example, CBT may be best for addressing negative thoughts or behaviours, while integrative therapy can combine therapeutic styles to offer a more bespoke approach. CBT, which is a combination of behavioural therapy and cognitive therapy, is one of the most common choices if you are experiencing issues with anxiety.
