The Most Beautiful Landscapes of Nicaragua

The Most Beautiful Landscapes of Nicaragua

Nicaragua remains an unknown country, even if it is a rising destination. Beyond its fascinating political history that we were able to tell you through our immersion in the Miraflor reserve and our poignant meeting with Juan, a Sandinista veteran, it is above all the landscapes of Nicaragua that marked our memories.

A constellation of volcanoes that shape the landscapes of NicaraguaThe Most Beautiful Landscapes of Nicaragua

Nicaragua is located in the heart of the Central American volcanic arc that extends from Guatemala to Panama. The confrontation of the tectonic plates allowed the emergence of a huge number of volcanoes. They constitute the territory of Nicaragua and have the distinction of being relatively accessible. Lunar landscapes and smoking craters are among the landscapes that fascinate us the most. And when we love we do not count? So we did not make a selection of the best of the best volcano the most beautiful … But rather an anthology of different volcanoes that you can admire, climb, surf …

We recommend the Masaya volcano for its fumaroles, the Monaco for its lush forest, the Maderas or Concepcion for hikers, the Cerro Negro for surfing (if so) or even the replica to have the chance to see the molten lava!

Ometepe Island, a pearl on Lake NicaraguaThe Most Beautiful Landscapes of Nicaragua

We have seen beautiful landscapes, magical places, spots that we self-proclaim paradise. The island of Ometepe surpasses them all. These two perfectly shaped volcanoes on this island in the heart of Lake Nicaragua are a magnificent work of goldsmith as only nature can offer us.

We are not the only ones to want to squat this little corner of paradise. A rich fauna has taken up residence there, like the howler monkeys, Capuchins and noisy but beautiful birds, the urracas.

A coffee region, emblem landscape of Central America

Central America is also symbolized by its dense, humid, slightly mountainous forest, which provides an ideal setting for coffee production. In Nicaragua, it is around Jinotega and Matagalpa that the coffee trees grow in the shade of the giants of the forest. Once seeded and roasted, the coffee will arrive at the heart of your home and finish its course in a nice decorated cup. The color of the leaves and grains make these plantations a playground devilishly photogenic.

Other parts of Nicaragua offer beautiful landscapes formed by man-made cultures that respect the panorama. This is the case of the Miraflores and Tisey reserves in the north of the country.

On the banks of the Rio San Juan, wild NicaraguaThe Most Beautiful Landscapes of Nicaragua

The Rio San Juan connects two beauties of Nicaragua: the island of Ometepe and the Caribbean coast. This regular river bordered with the virgin forest is the archetype of the adventure river on which one dreams of sailing. It is bordered by the reserve of Indio Maiz where you can walk in the footsteps of the jaguar. Unless you come across smaller, colorful fanatics of the family of the dendrobates.

If you have some time between your passage from Ometepe Island to Rio San Juan, take a hook through the Solentiname Islands.

The Corn Islands, tropical postcard landscapeThe Most Beautiful Landscapes of Nicaragua

The Caribbean coast is very extensive in Nicaragua. However, a beautiful part of the coastline remains inaccessible. Fortunately, this is not the case of Corn Island (little and big). Paradise islands where to bask, sip a cocktail with the nuances of the blue sea. We did not go, but everyone talks about it and to look at the pictures, I think it’s not bad…

The Mangrove of Padre Ramos Estuary

The Padre Ramos estuary is home to an ecosystem that we particularly love: the mangroves. It can be observed on the tropical coasts in areas cradled quietly by the tides. The plants that compose it are very well adapted to the singular conditions of their environment (salinity, tidal cycle …): mangroves, whose intertwined roots allow it to dock effectively. This fragile ecosystem, beyond its beauty, has many essential functions (shelter for wildlife, protection against earthquakes, against erosion …).

The Somoto Canyon, a brutal landscape in northern Nicaragua

When a tumultuous stream of water pushes its way without asking for permission, one must expect a grandiose relief. Drugged patiently by the rain for ages, the Somoto canyon today has enough depth to give you some thrills during a canyoning session.

The beaches of the Pacific coastThe Most Beautiful Landscapes of Nicaragua

Partygoers, surfers or nature lovers, you will not have a hard time finding a beach that will meet your expectations. Of course, we have a small preference for quiet beaches like las Penitas where we can train while watching the waves break on the shore. And as a beautiful landscape is always sublimated by animals, we advise you to enjoy these beaches by going to observe the turtles, as in the reserve of Chacocente or the Flor.
