A Guide to Modern Living Room Lighting

Linda Blair March 23, 2018 Reviews Leave a Comment

Besides the bedroom, the living room is probably the room where you and your family spend most of your time. It’s the place where everyone can unwind after a long day at work or school, and it’s where the family comes together to watch TV, play games, chat or simply relax. It’s easy to neglect the lighting in your home’s living room, and many of us simply “make do” with whatever the current lighting set up is, even if it’s far from ideal.

The right lighting can make a huge difference to your living room, however, and can completely change the way you use this space. Elle Decor has some great ideas for contemporary lighting if you are nervous about moving away from traditional lighting to something more modern.

Here are some of the most popular lighting options for modern living rooms.

Downlights

These can help make your room more relaxing and inviting, giving it an instant warm feeling. They are not obtrusive so are perfect if you favour minimalist lighting that won’t interfere with your aesthetic. They can be switched on when you need more light, or switched off and replaced with lamps when you want it a little darker.

Chandeliers

These might not the first things that come to mind when you think about living room lighting, but modern chandeliers are available in so many styles, sizes and finishes that you’re sure to find something perfect for your home. Chandeliers are especially well suited to homes with high ceilings. They cast a pretty glow around your room and can instantly elevate the ambiance of your space. Check out the selection at http://roccoborghese.com/ if you’re still not convinced. From luxury chandeliers to simple modern fittings, you’ll be amazed by the variety these days.

Lamps

Adding a number of lamps is a great idea. Having several lamps lets you control the amount of lighting in each part of the room, meaning someone can comfortably be watching TV while another reads or does homework. You can dot several lamps around in corners and in alcoves as well as place them on handy tables or shelves. You can choose whether to have just a couple of lamps on for a cosy evening in or switch them all on for a pleasing glow when you have guests.
