More essential kit for your new campervan

We’ve already looked at some of the essentials for life on the road in a camper van. But there’s a whole range of other things that can make your holiday easier and more enjoyable.

Be Alert

If have gas for heating and cooking, then you need to be alert to the dangers of carbon monoxide. An alarm that can alert you to the presence of the deadly gas – as well as detecting smoke – will cost you less than £20 and is well worth it for peace of mind.

European Essentials

If you’re planning on taking your camper van to Europe, make sure you understand the requirements of the countries you’re travelling to. Experienced Welsh Coast Campers users will know that most require you to have replacement bulbs, a warning triangle and high-vis clothing. You may also need a first aid kit and breathalysers, and don’t forget the GB sticker. You can buy these things separately or they’re available as ready-made touring kits.

Navigation Aids

Travelling on holiday usually means visiting an unfamiliar area, so make sure you have the means to find your way around. Sat navs or smartphone navigation apps are affordable and generally reliable, but Welsh Coast Campers customers will know they’re not infallible, so make sure you have a road atlas or map for the area you’re visiting too.

Pump It Up

Camper vans aren’t immune to flat tyres, especially if they’re left standing for a long time. The easiest way to address this is with a portable inflator that can be run off the van’s 12V power. These are also handy for blowing up airbeds and beach balls. You get models with extra features like lights and battery boosters too.

Tools

It’s always worth having a basic tool kit in your van. While modern vehicles are generally reliable, it’s always good to be able to fix things like loose cupboard doors. A good set of tools, including spanners, screwdrivers and pliers, is a definite essential.

Online Access

While some people go on holiday to get away from the world, for others it’s vital to be able to check their emails and update their social media. Fitting your van with a Wi-Fi hotspot and a SIM card means you can use all your devices like laptops and tablets wherever you go.
