The first 10 minutes of the working day affect our effectiveness for the next 8 hours. We are sorting out what not to do in the mornings to be productive all day long.

If we were almost late and, finally appearing in the workplace, immediately hovering in an overcrowded mailbox, it would be difficult to focus on anything useful.

To come to work strictly by the beginning of the working day

You can spoil your working day before it starts. According to research, management prefers owls of larks and in fact has the property of noticing those who appear in the office later than others. Notice, it’s not late, but just comes a little later than the rest.

Undoubtedly identifying such people, managers tend to give them lower grades than they deserve, simply because they fall into their field of vision at the best of times.

This means that at this time our body does not need additional caffeine doping. Moreover, the abuse of coffee in this period contributes to the development of caffeine dependence.

Therefore, if you start working at 9 am or earlier, move your first coffee break to a later time, when your body really needs refueling energy.

Reply To Each Email

Do not have time to sit down in the chair and turn on the computer, how do you obsessively rush to disassemble everything that has fallen into the “Inbox” for the night? And here and in vain.

It will be much better if you spend the first 10 minutes of your workday for a quick “scan” and an evaluation of incoming correspondence for its importance.

This approach will help you determine priorities and understand if there is anything urgent in the mail. In addition, you will make a plan, how and when to answer the remaining letters.

Grasp for work without a clear plan of action

Do not plan scrupulously your daily work because you think that there is nothing to plan, or because you are confident in your sense of time?

Most likely, you waste time, jumping from one case to another and eventually not having time to solve the most priority tasks.

Before you get to work, make sure that you have a clear understanding of what needs to be done first.

There is nothing shameful in making a list of the most priority cases and sensibly assessing the time that you will spend on each of them. Also, do not forget to look at the calendar.

Otherwise, you risk being caught off guard by reporting a long-planned meeting, to which you forgot to prepare because you heroically fought the quarterly report.

Multitasking

Terrible news for all who believe that they can do several things at the same time: only 2% of the population of this planet can do several things simultaneously without detriment to their own understanding and the quality of the work performed.

The desire to start doing as many things as possible, as long as there are forces, occurs quite often. Suppress this desire and in the first minutes of your working day, after you have made a clear plan of action for today, start doing one thing.

Negative Thoughts

Maybe you stepped on the foot in the subway, or you are beside yourself with anger after two hours of standing in the traffic jam on the way to work, or you quarreled with your parents, or are panic afraid of cuts – throw it out of your head for a while.

Do not let negative experiences spoil your career. Experts consider it much more productive to postpone their negative thoughts and grievances in a separate “box” and return to them, if necessary, later.

Refusal Of Routine

Human resources are limited, so they need to be spent sparingly.

If you spend all the day’s start trying to decide what to do first: whether to sort out the mail, or to drink coffee, or, perhaps, immediately start with the quarterly report – by the time you finally do it, you are already exhausted.

Routine is perceived by us rather in a negative context, as something boring and monotonous. This is partly true.

But following a daily routine helps our brain use an “automatic mode” where there is no need for making complex decisions, and save energy that will come in handy where these solutions are needed. So make yourself a schedule, avoiding the mistakes listed here, and follow it, saving your energy and increasing productivity.
